How To Lose Weight By Eliminating The Guesswork

If you're planning on losing weight, and you can do yourself a tremendous favor by eliminating as much guesswork as possible. I would venture to say that it is guesswork that is probably the cause of a large percentage of the frustration you may have had when trying to lose weight.

You decided you would cut back on certain things, and unfortunately, you found out that you didn't lose weight. At that point, you may felt that your weight loss plan didn't work. If you think about it really makes sense. Why should it work? Especially since your approach to losing weight was just on a whim and without a plan. What made you think you would be successful? It's not eating less that's important… it's what you eat less of that's important. The formula is actually pretty simple...to weigh less we simply need to burn more calories than we consume.

My most successful personal weight loss program has been one where I kept close track of every single thing I ate. This was first suggested to me by a friend of mine. Of course, I thought he was completely out of his mind, but decided to give it a try anyway.

I also decided that I would give my weight-loss experiment two weeks and then check my results after that time. I'd made the choice of cutting back on my carb intake as a focus of my two-week experiment. Each day, I would write down what I ate for every meal and record the calorie count of every meal. It really gave me a good feeling to keep a journal of what I was eating each day. I felt like I was an active participant in my own self-improvement, and that encouraged me and gave me the discipline to move forward and to not cut corners.

I have to admit that after the two-week period I was quite pleased with the results. I can honestly say without reservation that this system worked. If it worked for me I'm certain that something similar could quite easily work for you.The very first step would be to create a simple weight loss plan. Now here's something that's really important. I don't think it's necessary to make a lifelong commitment, in fact, you could even try a simple two-week experiment like I did. Then based upon the outcome of your experiment you can decide which direction to go after that. I do not even think it would be necessary for you to set a weight-loss goal, but to just see how much weight you can actually lose by following your weight-loss plan. This is much better than setting a potentially unrealistic goal. Setting and not achieving an unrealistic goal can not only be very discouraging but ineffective as well.

Some useful features for tracking weight loss include your own journal, goal setting functions, reports, etc. One of my favorite features is labeled "Activities". Here you can easily see the number of calories you will burn by performing certain activities. This may help you decide whether to walk, run, or bicycle based upon the number of calories you want to burn.

Knowing what to eat and how much of it to eat is a good first step to effective weight loss. The more you eliminate guesswork the closer you will be to living the healthy lifestyle that you desire.
